Privacy Policy

CycleSync ("the app") keeps sound systems on a group bike ride playing in sync using a shared GPS clock. This policy explains what the app accesses, why, and what leaves your device. In short: CycleSync does not track you, show ads, or sell data, and it uploads nothing about you unless you explicitly choose to send a diagnostic report.

What the app accesses on your device

• Location (GPS) — used only as a precise shared time reference so every rider's audio starts on the same beat. The app reads GPS timing signals; it is not used to map, track, store, or transmit your position. Location is processed on your device and is not sent to our servers as part of normal use.
• Microphone — used only when you actively use a voice feature: making an announcement over the music, or running the one-time audio calibration. Audio from an announcement is streamed to the other riders in your room so they can hear it; it is not recorded to our servers.
• Local network / internet — used to connect to the CycleSync server to join a room, download the queued music, and stay in sync.
• Notifications, wake lock, foreground service, Bluetooth state, USB — used to keep playback running and in time while the screen is off, to warn you if audio is routed over Bluetooth (which breaks sync), and to talk to an optional plug-in GPS module.

What we collect on our servers

During normal use, the server receives only what's needed to run a room — a room code, an anonymous per-install device identifier, your device model, and playback timing measurements used to keep the group in sync. This is not linked to your real-world identity.

Diagnostic reports are opt-in. If you tap Upload logs in the app's GPS status screen, the app sends its recent on-device log files, an automatically generated context summary (app version, room, role, GPS state, time), and any note you type. This helps us fix issues you report. It is sent only when you choose to send it.

What we do NOT do

• No advertising, and no advertising or analytics tracking SDKs.
• No selling or sharing of personal data with third parties.
• No background location tracking, location history, or mapping of your rides.

Data retention

Anonymous room and timing data is transient and used to operate a live room. Diagnostic reports you send are retained only as long as needed to investigate issues and are then deleted.

Children

CycleSync is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves; material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
